Description
A PU (Poly) Men’s Toupee, often called a Skin Hair System, is a hair replacement piece where the base is made of a thin, transparent, plastic-like material that mimics the appearance and feel of real skin.
It is one of the most popular types of hair systems because it offers a “second skin” effect.
Key Characteristics
Invisible Appearance: The base is clear and blends perfectly with your scalp color. When applied, it looks as if the hair is growing directly out of your own head.
Varying Thickness: PU bases come in different levels of “thinness”:
Ultra-Thin Skin (0.03mm): Extremely natural but fragile (lasts about 3–4 weeks).
Bio-Skin (0.08mm – 0.10mm): More durable while still looking very realistic (lasts 2–3 months).
Easy Maintenance: Because the surface is smooth and non-porous, it is much easier to clean off glue or tape residue compared to mesh or lace bases.
High Adhesion: The flat surface of the PU allows for a very strong bond with liquid adhesives, making it very secure for active lifestyles.
The Trade-off: Breathability
Unlike Mono or Lace (which are mesh-based), a PU base is a solid layer. This means:
Less Ventilation: It does not allow air to circulate as easily, which can feel warmer in hot climates.
Sweat Trapping: If you sweat heavily, the moisture can get trapped under the base, which might require more frequent re-bonding to maintain hygiene.
